Nepali Congress lawmaker Pratima Gautam has drawn the government’s attention to the plight of Nepali trainee workers who, despite receiving Japan’s visa (COE), are being forced to retake unauthorized language tests in Nepal to obtain labor approval.
Speaking during Tuesday’s zero hour in the House of Representatives, MP Gautam raised concerns about a syndicate operating under the organization called “JAN,” which has reportedly been functioning for the past 15 years. She cited various media reports exposing the irregularities and called on the government to take immediate action.
MP Gautam demanded the immediate dismantling of the syndicate, legal action against those involved, and reforms to make the foreign employment process transparent, effective, and youth-friendly.
“Although stakeholders such as foreign employment agents, consumer rights activists, and media have repeatedly raised this issue, no improvements have been made. As a result, rights groups have now taken the matter to the Supreme Court,” she stated.
She highlighted how young Nepalis, despite obtaining visas and passing language tests, are still barred from leaving the country due to unnecessary exams imposed upon them. This has left many frustrated, hopeless, and angry.
“Their morale has been broken. Their future is in question. This issue is linked to the employment dreams of thousands of youth, and the government cannot simply remain silent,” said MP Gautam.
